Representation Analysis

 Axe

With the axe commercial it misrepresents women in a negative way. The commercial sexualizes women like most commercials do. In the commercial, the women are wearing the bare minimum and showing a lot of skin. I understand as to why they chose to do this as the target audience is men between 18-30. The commercial doing this makes its consumers believe if they use Axe, they will have tons of women chasing after them. The commercial will help propel the product; however, the way that the women are shown is ethically wrong. Women tend to always be used in sexual ways in the media world to attract male viewers which is absolutely inappropriate.

Tide

In the Tide commercial, I saw an issue with gender representation. We live in a world where people wear many different things no matter what gender the clothes are named for. For example, there may be women that wear men clothes or the other way around. These things are normal now and are not seen as strange. However, the commercial does a poor job at showing this. In the commercial, the mother is uncomfortable with her daughter wearing articles of clothing that are meant to be worn by men. The mother wants her clothes to damage, but Tide prevents that from happening. There is a large predicament with this commercial as it shows that the girl is not allowed to express the way she wants to because of her gender. The commercial portrays an unethical message that can lead to them losing customers.
